About Me

Hi ! I'm Dimple. A very warm welcome to my travel blog. I started this endeavor to make life easier answering all the questions and queries about what I love to do more than anything. Over time this simple enumeration of basic facts has morphed into an attempt to relive each and every amazing moment by trying to recapture the magic. Remember how it felt to see or do something amazing for the very first time ? The sense of awe, the thrill, the spellbound silence, the heady sense of accomplishment ? And the sweet nostalgia of revisiting a familiar scene, a fleeting scent, a wayward touch that instantly transports you across space and time to a moment among moments when you knew in your heart and soul that you really, truly, lived ? I hope that you will enjoy this journey with me as I venture forth to DYScover all the wonders our world has to offer, and that it will inspire you to head out the door on your own magnificent journeys. Thanks for visiting.

Greek Islands 2009 Day 11 - Mykonos : Mykonos Town

We started the day with a leisurely sit out near the pool, before heading down to the restaurant for breakfast. We had decided the previous day that the archaeological marvels on the nearby island of Delos, which is the most popular half day trip out of Mykonos, was to stand down in favour of living it up on Mykonos. Knowing that the famous lions on the "Avenue of the Lions" on Delos, were in fact replicas, helped the decision somewhat. Anyways, can never do everything one wants in limited time, and for now, the hedonism of Mykonos prevailed.

Where else to go to see all those beautiful, beautiful people, but the famous beaches of Mykonos. Platys Gialos, Agia Anna, Paradise, Super Paradise, Elia, you are spoilt for choice. What never changes is the party atmosphere, the golden sand, the azure waters, and the sun on your face.

Headed into town for a wander around and thats exactly what we did. Making sense of the maze of streets, even with a map is impossible, and after a while, we just let our feet lead us.

Ever so often, we would stop to take the endless photos, browse in the shops, or have a laugh, like at the name of the shop below.

We found ourselves in the middle of the Little Venice area, which has these wonderful cafes and tavernas on the waterfront. We stopped at one for lunch and had a lazy meal by the water.

Pretty soon we were in the neighborhood of the windmills again, and we decided to go and see what they looked like in the bright sunshine.

Back down and around the bend to the Paraportiani church which was basking in the afternoon sun in all its white glory.

Just around the bend from the church is the famous Nikos Taverna, and we were lucky enough to catch its most regular customer - Pete the Pelican.

We wandered back towards the main crossroads, stopping to take pictures at this church and the marina.

It was time to head back and hit the pool again, and the water was even colder than yesterday, although very refreshing once you got in.

Although we would have liked to stay in longer, it was getting colder and so we got out of the pool and warmed up in the jacuzzi indoors. When we emerged, the sunset show had begun, and we decided to enjoy it with drinks and snacks from our own private viewing point.

Given the lazy mood we were in, we decided on room service and a movie on TV, after which sleep came easily and swiftly.
