We started the day as we did yesterday, lounging by the pool before going for breakfast.
After breakfast, we hung around the common infinity pool area for a bit, while we waited for the shuttle into town. We had to go to the bank and make payment for the lamp that we had bought on Paros.
We returned mid morning and had time to go before departing for the afternoon ferry to Santorini, and I for whiled the time away reading by the pool.
All too soon it seemed it was time to leave Cavo Tagoo and we were dropped off at the ferry pier for the ferry to Santorini. It took us about 2.5 hours, most of it fairly choppy, and again, since this was a catamaran service, we stayed indoors munching on chips and sipping a soda, which was a sort of lunch, I guess.
We disembarked in Santorini and the pick up from Perivolas was waiting for us. The first views of the caldera as we climbed up the switchbacks towards Fira took my breath away. Of course we could not stop and take pictures, but I will carry the memory of it in my mind's eye forever.
The drive to Oia took about 30 minutes, and we enjoyed just looking out at the vistas before us. The first look at Oia as we rounded a bend on the hill, and we were in love. This is such a special, special place, and I absolutely agree, hands down, with all those who say that this is where one should base oneself on Santorini.
We got off at the Perivolas entrance, and walked down the steps cut into the cliffside to the reception. We had again been upgraded into a Junior Suite, although our booking was for a Junior Studio, which meant a bigger room, or should I say, cave. We did a lot of research on hotels in Santorini, and let me tell you, its tough work, all the websites have all these amazing pictures. What settled it for us was a few things which we felt were important - firstly, you stay in an actual cave. Secondly, their infinity pool is world famous, having graced the covers of Conde Nast and many other magazines. Their recliners are spread out in such a way that everyone gets a great view, whether from the room or by the pool. They don't have private pools except in the uber expensive Perivolas Suite, or private jacuzzis, but they have a jacuzzi overlooking the caldera, with WARM water, apparently, a lot of the private ones have cold water.
As we walked into the room, and out onto the balcony, it hit me. I was finally in Santorini.
Given the hour, we decided to enjoy sunset with wine and snackies right there, and what a spectacle it was.
Having skipped lunch, needless to say we were ravenous, and after freshening up, we walked into the village, about 7 minutes away. It looked amazing all lit up and we could not wait to see it it the daytime. We stopped and had dinner at Ambrosia, overlooking the caldera and looking up at the stars.
We trudged back to our cave, how I love even saying that, and turned in, excited at the prospect of spending the next few days in this paradise.
